Is a right for every child, which consists of the systematic exposure of ideas, facts and techniques to students, where a person exerts an organized and voluntary influence over another one, with the intention of his or her formation.
The Wayuu Taya Foundation in alliance with other organizations develops initiatives oriented to enabling areas for formal educational processes (preschool, elementary and high school) and informal educational processes (courses, lectures, etc.), particularly in schools and communities, with the intention of contributing to knowledge sharing, as well as to share their values, customs and behaviors.
The foundation aims to provide complimentary education to children and the integral development of their younger generations, in order to contribute to the preservation of their cultural traditions, their future economic development and the preservation of peace.
Wayuu Taya also implements educational programs oriented to the integral development of women, encouraging gender equality and the active participation of women in diverse aspects of the communities’ economic development.
There is a considerable amount of communities that lack the basic resources needed to apply new technologies in their classrooms.
The Wayúu Taya Foundation, along with its allies, has made considerable efforts to provide brand new technological tools to schools, in order to enhance the teaching-learning process.
With the appropriate use of technology, students are able to acquire important skills in order to survive in a technologically focused society. While doing this, the Foundation also focuses on preserving their roots, customs and traditions.
New technology is vital for an improved education for the students, as well as a beneficial requirement amid the new advances in this field and for a fortuitous future performance. This also reduces research and publishing information times, thus highlighting its importance in the classroom.
The Wayuu Taya Foundation implements science and technology programs with children, to allow the systematic acquisition of scientific knowledge and the use of informative technologies. Promoting the use of technology for the exchange and creation of information contributes to the safeguard and spreading of their native language.
Preserving Wayuu art and culture, The Wayuu Taya Foundation creates programs based around performing arts, musicals and plastic arts, that are integrated to several educational programs on a basic level, strengthening their knowledge in art and helping develop individuals with a sense of awareness, expressiveness, openness and creativity.
In these programs, musical instruments are made and we also learn how to play them; knitting done by the Wayuu women is also highlighted.
The Foundation has elderly teachers, who in addition to transmitting their knowledge about the Wayuu culture, are worthy representatives, enablers and contributors to the growth of the identity and respect towards diversity among indigenous communities.
Sports and recreation play a major role as an instrument for learning, teaching, conviviality, tolerance and solidarity, improving the leadership model within the community.
In alliance with other organizations, The Wayuu Taya Foundation develops physical education, sports and recreational programs that help indigenous children perform physical activities, contributing to their growth and supporting a healthy lifestyle.
With sports and recreation, we try to unite the different clans within this ethnicity, promoting traditional games in all of their forms in every community, under the safeguard of the Wayuu in the Media and Alta Guajira.
Children in schools practice several sports, some which are traditional to their own community.
In order to cope with the communities’ basic needs, alliances are established with institutions and entities which contribute to the development of indigenous communities, monitoring the impact of the Foundation programs
