The Wayuu Taya Foundation has joined with Global Giving for a fundraiser to help our impoverished communities during the worldwide pandemic, Covid-19. As you well know, the area we serve on the border of Venezuela and Colombia is already impacted by hunger and malnutrition, but now that Covid-19 has made its way to the villages, it is important for us to raise funds to help protect this population from disease while continuing to bring humanitarian relief to the area.
We are coming to you today to ask that you consider making a donation to our foundation through the Global Giving website. We are in need of 40 donations in order to gain verification. We have a very short amount of time (16 days) to earn this verification with them and we really need your help to do it. Donating through this site would allow us to reach more people and earn more donations needed to continue our efforts to bring relief to so many who are in dire need of help during this unprecedented time in our history.
Thanks to our partnerships and your donations during the last 12 months, we have served over 125,000 people:
-Distributing PPE kits to 4,000 medical personnel, healthcare workers and volunteers.
-Providing over 7,750 child-sized face masks.
-Dispensing 500 gallons of hand sanitizer.
-Allocating 114,000 bars of soap to help slow the spread of the virus.
-We have served over 1 million meals covering a total of 85 communities, 38 schools, and 18 institutions.
-We have distributed more than 9,000 glasses of fortified milk in 13 communities. Now the program is in its second phase, expecting to reach 2,150 children in 20 communities serving 51,600 glasses of fortified milk, as part of the impact of the Recovery and Rebuild program implemented by the Wayuu Taya Foundation and our partners.
-Delivering and distributing thousands of supplies.
Our team has implemented numerous programs including a permanent nutritional assessment program that detects malnutrition in children by monitoring their growth and development. This has drastically reduced the amount of cases of malnutrition in our communities that receive your humanitarian aid.
There is still so much that needs to be done to make sure that the positive impact of your help becomes permanent. We are so grateful you have joined us and hope that you can be a part of this journey that last year served over 125,000 people.
As a supporter of our work, we want to send you a warm thank you. It is because of your help that we are able to improve the lives of the vulnerable indigenous children and families we serve on the border between Venezuela and Colombia during this unprecedented time.
